Gretchen SchubeckAssociate Director
Gretchen was born in southern California and spent time living on both U.S. Coasts and in the Caribbean before her family settled on the Mendocino coast in the late ‘70s. Living in northern California provided Gretchen with wonderful examples of people living sustainably, respecting the land and standing up for issues that impact our human family and the environment. Gretchen has spent most of her career working in the nonprofit sector and has a deep affinity for and commitment to fostering the power of community. After graduating from San Francisco State University in 1997, Gretchen moved to New Zealand where she lived for nearly 14 years before emigrating back to California with her ‘kiwi’ husband Scott and their daughter Nina. In her spare time, she loves to garden, swim, read, cook and breathe deeply.

“Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I’ve found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love.” – Gandalf
