On Saturday, March 12th,2016 Daily Acts partnered with the City of Petaluma to host an educational and inspirational volunteer event to sheet mulch the lawn at Petaluma Fire Station #3 and plant a new water-wise demonstration landscape in its place. This site is now growing a multitude of drought-tolerant, multi-functional plants while beautifying the neighborhood and saving 31,250 gallons of water per year. The landscape will serve as a model for community members interested in getting rid of their own thirsty lawns. There is a rain garden, fruit trees and culinary herbs for the live-in fire fighters, plus a myriad of other low water-use, low maintenance ground covers and shrubs. The event was made extra special by a tree planting ceremony lead by Vice Mayor David King and by a hearty homemade lunch. Despite a deluge during the event and a rain date reschedule, this event was very successful.
