Petaluma City Hall
📍11 English St, Petaluma, CA 94952
The City of Petaluma is a state leader in implementing climate resilient landscaping practices throughout the city, and as such, sets an example of how beautiful these water-wise gardens could be —by installing them at city hall.
The City of Petaluma first decided to transform part of their landscape from lawn to climate resilient garden in 2009. At this time, Daily Acts’ staff and volunteers worked together to sheet mulch 25,000 square feet and then installed water-wise and native plants, edible plants, bioswales and rain gardens for water retention, and rain tanks to store winter rains for use during dry months.
In October of 2013, Daily Acts returned with volunteers to add 98 drought-tolerant plants to fill in our previous landscape installation.
For Earth Day, in April of 2025, the City of Petaluma asked Daily Acts to return to transform the front entrance! With help from City Staff, 1,584 square feet was turned into a welcoming native plant garden.
PLANT LIBRARY
Take yourself on a tour of our demonstration garden by using our plant library below to identify plants as you go! If you’re interested in using some of these plants at your home garden, this is a great opportunity to see what they look like once they are established. Learn all about our favorite water-wise plants including whether they fruit and/or flower, their sunlight needs, and their watering needs.
Kevin McDonnell, Mayor of the City of Petaluma
“Daily Acts is an essential partner to the City of Petaluma. With their support, we’re using less water now than in the year 2000. But Daily Acts does so much more than save water, they’re helping lead a wider community transformation, working with other cities and spreading their approach in more and more communities.”
