On May 2nd and 5th 2022, in partnership with the City of Cotati, Daily Acts completed two landscape transformations for two Cotati families: Brent, Stephanie and their kids; and Molly and Jim. These families took the leap to transform their thirsty lawns into beautiful water-wise, habitat providing, climate-friendly landscapes!

Brent and Molly’s applications were chosen from a pool of over 40 City of Cotati water customers — eligibility factors included having a functioning irrigation system and controller, a turf lawn of at least 500 square feet, and a willingness to follow the City’s Cash for Grass rebate requirements.

Back in February, Daily Acts staff capped both sprinkler systems and volunteers sheet-mulched both lawns, essentially composting them in place. Once the canvas was prepped, we sat down with each family to work out water-wise landscape designs. Once designs were finalized and irrigation schematics drawn up, we brought in a crew of CREDO High School Juniors for the two installation workdays, as part of CREDO’s One Planet Week of Action. The students planted over 150 plants, laid hundreds of feet of water-efficient drip irrigation tubing, and learned about the many co-benefits of lawn replacement, from saving water and providing beauty to regenerating ecosystems and slowing down climate change. Both families will receive a  $750 rebate through the City’s Cash for Grass program to help offset materials costs. Since the process began, a few neighbors have even started their own transformation processes!

We are so happy that we got to connect and co-create with the Cotati community and transform two thirsty lawns into sources of abundance and regeneration!
