In Partnership with the City of Petaluma, Daily Acts and Rebuilding Together hosted a workday at McKinley School on Saturday October 15th, 2016. The purpose of the day was to create a pollinator habitat and an outdoor learning space for students and faculty to benefit from. Students, teachers, parents, and community members joined us for this transformative event to eliminate an underutilized area of lawn, and create a healthy habitat. Also, in collaboration with the City of Petaluma and Grab N’ Grow Soil Products, the school was able to obtain the proper resources to sheet mulch the lawn, which allows it to compost in place rather than the lawn being dug up and dumped into the landfill. Once the sheet mulching was complete, volunteers helped install drip irrigation and planted natives,as well as, fruit bearing plants.
