On Tuesday, November 1st, 2022, Daily Acts partnered with the City of Santa Rosa to host a program focused on Reusing the Rain: DIY Rain Barrel Systems. Jesse Savou, Founder of Blue Barrel Rain Catchment, begun the program with context setting; our planet is experiencing a water storage issue, not a water shortage issue. From in-ground catchment with intentional topography to above-ground catchment with tanks, there are many ways that one can harvest and reuse rain. The program described different types of catchment opportunities, site, and design considerations, and shared an example of how head pressure from your tanks can be fed into drip irrigation. Participants asked questions that ranged from average cost per barrel and how to design an overflow to if rain water can be used for chickens and growing vegetables. The audience was engaged, and the presenter was incredibly knowledgeable!
With California facing a severe drought, it is critical that we make every drop count! Thank you to the City of Santa Rosa for supporting this program.
