Dear Daily Actor,

As we observe the violence and civil rights violations being committed by DHS and ICE in Minnesota and across the country, our hearts go out to the communities and families whose lives and safety have been shattered. As an environmental organization, we understand that climate justice and social justice are intrinsically linked. We strongly believe that all people, despite what they look like or where they were born, deserve dignity and due process.

In the midst of the despair, heartbreak, and anger we feel, many of us are feeling called in our hearts to take action – but what does that look like? These words from Clarissa Pinkola Estés act as a simple set of operating instructions, and feel as relevant as ever: Focus on what you can positively impact; take a stand for what lights you up and share this.

The short answer is this: taking action can look a little different for everyone, but the very premise of Daily Acts is that every act you do helps. If you don’t know where to begin, start by focusing on your circle of influence, or the things you can do something about. Then, consider where you are called to take action. What is your small but essential part in caring for our community?

Hope is a verb.
If you are feeling powerless, here are some ideas to make an impact:

  • Join a demonstration or protest
  • Call if you witness potential ICE activity
  • Call your representatives
  • Sign a petition
  • Volunteer in your community
  • Introduce yourself to your neighbors
  • Listen to a friend with care
  • Donate to mutual aid groups
  • Attend a city council meeting
  • Rest, so you can rise again
  • …and more regularly updated actions here

The more we get to know our neighbors, the more we intentionally connect with one another, and the more we stand together, the more we can see that we aren’t alone. There are more people just like us, who believe in love, kindness and compassion. We can help sow seeds of hope in those around us.

If you need a safe space, community connection, or a dose of hope, we invite you to join us at one of our upcoming events in the garden. We look forward to seeing you there. 🧡

With hope,
