On April 6th 2021, Daily Acts, the City of Petaluma, and Recology came together to discuss actions we can all take at home to reduce stormwater pollution and keep our waterways clean.
At the end of 2020, the City of Petaluma completed the much anticipated dredging of the Petaluma River to remove silt that had built up over the past decade! However, once dredging was completed, a new issue appeared: the dredge material was full of more than a decades’ worth of trash! Thankfully, a group of volunteers worked diligently to comb through the dredge material at Schollenberger Park and remove the plastic, bottles, and shredded bits of garbage in order to protect our watershed.
What can we do differently to ensure the future health of our Petaluma Watershed? This is where you come in! There are so many actions we can take in our households every day, from changing our buying habits and better managing our household waste to becoming more aware of what washes down our driveways and into our stormwater drains.
