On Earth Day, April 22nd, 2023, Daily Acts partnered with the City of Cloverdale to host an Earth Day Compost Giveaway. Enabled through a county-funded grant, we were able to distribute 40 yards of nutrient-rich compost to residents sourced from Cold Creek Compost, a compost facility nestled above the hills of Potter Valley.

Throughout the day, hundreds of Cloverdale residents of all ages stopped by with buckets and shovels in hand to collect compost for their gardens. What started as two giant piles of compost in the morning quickly dwindled, as members of the community transported loads of compost to their home gardens. By the end of the day, every inch of compost was ultimately put to use improving soil health of the Cloverdale community!

The Daily Acts staff is grateful to have spent our Earth Day with such an engaged and passionate community. Together, our continued efforts to spread compost throughout our county will play a pivotal role in sequestering carbon this Earth Day and everyday to come!

This event was made possible through a county-funded grant project focused on increasing carbon sequestration through compost application and education. This work is to assist with the goals of SB1383 and improve soil health. Through this grant, during 2023, Daily Acts will host a series of educational events on compost throughout the county; one for each of the 5 Sonoma County districts.
