California Lilac Ceanothus griseus horizontalis
While this native comes in all sizes and shapes, this creeping variety will grow 2-3’ tall and 12’ wide. Its waxy evergreen leaves are adorned with dense puffs of purple flowers that bloom early in spring, providing essential pollinator habitat when not much else is blooming. Rub flowers with water for a nice face wash. Pruning is not required, but if needed, cut it back lightly at the tips in the spring prior to bloom to promote new growth. Sensitive to over-watering. Keep emitters far from the root crown and phase back water after the first two years.
