On October 24, 2015 Daily Acts co-hosted the commercial lawn transformation event Mulchstock in Petaluma’s Redwood Business Park. At 64,000 square feet, Mulchstock was the largest community-powered sheet mulching project on record!! 135 volunteers participated in transforming this massive, unused lawn into a drought-proof, mulched landscape, saving 1.6 million gallons of water annually. The water savings from this project are equivalent in volume to 2.4 Olympic swimming pools. In return for their hard work, volunteers enjoyed free chair massages, hot catered meals, and the musical musings of Sol Horizon, The Bad Apple String Band, and Grand Crue.

Event partners included the Leadership Institute for Ecology and the Economy, Clear Blue Commercial, City of Petaluma,  Sonoma County Water Agency, Sonoma County Green Business Program, and Cagwin & Dorward Landscape Contractors, as well as ten additional local business sponsors. The majority of sheet mulching materials were provided through the City of Petaluma’s Mulch Madness program, irrigation supplies for the existing trees and future drought tolerant habitat plantings were donated by Rainbird, and the preparation work (edging, irrigation, etc.) was partially donated by Cagwin & Dorward.
