Daily Acts partnered with the Town of Windsor to transform 5,280 square feet of underutilized space into the Radiant Rain Garden in Old Vineyard Park. This project was completed in three phases: first sheet mulching, second planting, and third irrigation. The first phase of sheet mulching was completed in November of 2018, with 25 volunteers. You can read about that part of the project by clicking here!
The second and third phases of this project were completed in the spring of 2019. On the weekend of April 13th, volunteers planted the garden, and then the following weekend on April 20th, volunteers laid out drip irrigation. This garden uses around 40,000 gallons of water a year annually, saving 75,000 gallons of water each year compared to a lawn of the same size. In addition, the berm and basin swales throughout the garden give stormwater a place to slow, spread and sink into the landscape, recharging groundwater and delaying the need for supplemental irrigation.
