The lawn conversion at Santa Rosa Junior College Petaluma Campus will commence in July of 2026, starting with sheet mulching a 15,901 square foot portion of the existing lawn. This process will help to compost the lawn in place and improve the soil health to prepare for planting in the fall.
Daily Acts is currently designing a water-wise and native plant garden, which will save 411,406 gallons of water annually, as well as provide food and habitat for an array of local wildlife! Rain gardens, which help to slow runoff, sink it into the ground, and reduce stormwater pollution, will also be included in the design.
Once completed, the Santa Rosa Junior College Petaluma Campus will be the fourth garden installation in our Climate Resilient Schools Program, an expansion of our Land Resilience Partnership Program that supports water conservation projects at local schools in Petaluma. Through this program, water conservation measures such as rainwater tanks, turf conversion and efficient irrigation were installed at the schools, along with the planting of native trees to reduce heat from asphalt playgrounds.
