Strawberry Tree Arbutus ‘Marina’

This evergreen shrub is native to the Mediterranean Basin and is well known for its fruits that bear resemblance to strawberries! It can grow up to 23 feet tall, has reddish bark that’s prone to peeling, and flowers nearly year-round in the Bay Area, but peaks in late fall in winter. This provides late-season nectar for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds when food is scarce.
This plant does best when grown in full sun, well-drained soil, and with an occasional deep watering in the summer, but is otherwise very drought tolerant!
