On Saturday, May 4th 2019 from 10am to 1pm, Daily Acts partnered with the Town of Windsor and Sonoma-Marin Saving Water Partnership’s Eco Friendly Garden Tour to host an inspirational and educational guided tour of Resilient Homes and Demonstration Gardens throughout Windsor.
Program’s Coordinator, Liz Platte-Bermeo, led participants through three inspirational gardens that highlight different water conservation features and aesthetic styles. Starting with exploration of the Foothills of Windsor Demonstration, participants learned about sheet mulching, swales, and water-wise, multi-functional plants that are appropriate for Windsor’s soil and climate. From there, participants visited Cali Calmecac Language Academy to witness their keyhole school garden. This space includes a 2,650gallon rain tank that feeds their native, and food producing garden space through drip irrigation. Lastly, the tour visited Donna Legge’s water-wise oasis which includes vibrant habitat and pollinator attracting plants that are fed by drip irrigation and a laundry-to-landscape graywater feature; her dog Chloe enjoys the garden space too!
All tour participants received information on the State’s lawn removal rebate, as well as surrounding cities rebates for turf removal, and low-water use appliances. In addition, a packet of DIY water-wise resources, developed by Daily Acts, was distributed to provide the information needed for participants to apply these concepts and systems in their own landscapes!
