Eve Case Coffeeberry, or Frangula californica ‘Eve Case’ is a smaller variety of the common, native, evergreen shrub Coffeeberry that is found throughout California. It has beautiful, dense, dark-agreen oval leaves and big berries that change color from red, to purple, to black over the summer. The small, inconspicuous greenish-yellow flowers appear in May to July and produce showy berries that are first green then red and finally black when ripe. The fruit contains laxative properties and has long been used medicinally but IS NOT EDIBLE. It is very valued by birds! Can handle light pruning for shaping.
