Arroyo Willow, also known as Salix lasiolepis, is a small tree or shrub that is native to California and naturally grows near streams, so it does best when planted where it’s roots are kept moist. This fast growing tree prefers fill sun and can reach up to 30 feet tall and 10 feet wide. In the Bay Area, from February through May, distinctive, fuzzy, cylindrical catkins emerge before new foliage. In the winter, these plants lose its long, thin leaves.
