California Goldenrod Solidago velutina ssp. californica

Full Sun
Low Water Use

This plant is a perennial herb that produces tall masses of yellow flowers in late summer and fall, when many other plants are dormant. It’s a fast grower and produces flower spikes up to 5 feet tall. You can find this plant throughout California in open, grassy places up to 7,500 feet in elevation, and it’s a favorite amongst birds and pollinating insects.

It is easy to take care of, needing full sun to partial shade and will tolerate being wet in the winter and dry in the summer, especially once established. Give it room in the garden, as it spreads from a creeping rootstock.
