Blue Fortune Anise Hyssop, or Agastache foeniculum ‘Blue Fortune’

Blue Fortune Anise Hyssop, also known as Agastache foeniculum ‘Blue Fortune,’ is an edible plant in the mint family and is a hybrid cross between a North American and an Asian species of Anise Hyssop. It’s showy, fragrant spikes of flowers appear from midsummer through fall, attracting and feeding tons of pollinators. This plant can grow up to 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soils. Once established, it is drought and heat tolerant. Deadheading the flowers will promote more blooms.
Fun fact: It’s leaves smell like black licorice when crushed and can be used to make a tea. (Individuals with seizure disorders, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and young children should exercise caution or avoid anise hyssop tea altogether due to potential risks.)
