Carmel Creeper Ceanothus, also known as Ceanothus griseus var. horizontalis, is a California native shrub with evergreen leaves and flowers from winter through spring. It’s endemic to the coasts of California, normally growing in chaparral, coastal scrub, and closed-cone-pine forests. It’s flowers are food sources for some species of butterfly, moth, and bee larvae.

This type of Ceanothus is very popular for planting in California gardens because it is fast-growing and easy to grow in a wide range of soils. It is drought tolerate, but can tolerated watering up to twice a week during the summertime. It doesn’t need much pruning, and it’s best to only prune the tip of stems where the growth is active.
