WELCOME TO A CLIMATE RESILIENT NEIGHBORHOOD GARDEN ON THE EAST SIDE OF PETALUMA

Walk past the towering redwoods towards the southwest corner of La Tercera Park and you’ll see the climate resilient garden that volunteers helped install in December of 2024. Three zones were suggested for potential projects to improve biodiversity and beauty in this park, and Daily Acts held a community engagement session in August of 2024 to get feedback from folks who frequent the park. (Read the findings report here.)

HISTORY OF THE GARDEN

Before the transformation, the majority of La Tercera Park was lawn with about a dozen large redwood trees. Daily Acts worked with the Sonoma Resource Conservation District who helped design the rain garden and with Conservation Corps North Bay to sheet mulch a portion of the existing lawn to prepare for planting.

Daily Acts staff and volunteers transformed 12,160 square feet of lawn at La Tercera Park into a beautiful and water-wise pollinator paradise that uses 90% less water per year, provides habitat and food for wildlife, and helps draw down atmospheric carbon in the rain garden. A variety of drought tolerant and California native plants were chosen to create an attractive environment for people and pollinators alike.

PLANT LIBRARY

Take yourself on a tour of our demonstration garden by using our plant library below to identify plants as you go! If you’re interested in using some of these plants at your home garden, this is a great opportunity to see what they look like once they are established. Learn all about our favorite water-wise plants including whether they fruit and/or flower, their sunlight needs, and their watering needs.
