Dearest Daily Actor,

Waste is the name and Zero is the game – we are talking about Zero Waste this week! And if you are not familiar with this term, it is defined by the Zero Waste International Alliance as:

“The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health.”

Well that sounds good to me! Using our products responsibly and making sure that they are not harming our earth or ourselves at their end of life. This movement has gained popularity in recent years, and anyone who has dabbled or dived into it probably has discovered it is much more than just bringing your reusable bag to the grocery store. Personally, I’ve always been attracted to living a “Zero Waste lifestyle” because it teaches respect for the value of our materials and encourages a more mindful way of life. This respect for materials (that we often toss to the trash all too quickly) can really shift the way you look at all the “stuff” in your everyday life.

But zero seems like such an extreme number, right? The idea of living a Zero Waste life is to use these principals as a North Star to guide you on your journey. I have come to realize that the perfection of zero is not the point – the point is to make progress.

“We don’t need a handful of people doing Zero Waste perfectly.
We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
-Anne Marie Bonneau, Zero Waste Chef

So let’s start somewhere, and do it imperfectly together.

Take heart, Take part, Take action,

Marie
