By Kerry Fugett, Leadership Institute Program Manager
In each of us there is a leader. There is the ability to take the pain, grief and overwhelm at the state of the world and turn it into sustained fuel for compassionate action. Transforming this heartbreak takes mindfulness and awareness about how we are showing up in each of our daily actions.
Our bodies have borne a lot this year, and even as our minds turn to spring, growth and renewal, we must care for our bodies as well, as they carried us through the weight of a year of social distancing, horrific racial violence and retraumatizing fires. We must give space for our bodies to be present to the constant change we face.
The act of a simple extended breath may seem like a pebble in a sea of “to do” lists, but that breath can ripple into calmed nerves, clearer communication, and relationships that shift from transactional to transformational. A breath brings awareness and supports the intentional shifts in patterns of thinking and habits of action we need, helping us live into our values of connection over consumption.
In Daily Acts’ Leadership Institute for Just and Resilient Communities program, we create space for this culture-shifting work. Over the course of 9 months from September-June, we examine pressing issues such as climate change, systemic racism, inequitable economies, public health and more. We integrate head and heart, combining mind body medicine practices, inspirational speakers, and trauma-informed self-care with tools for nonviolent communication, stress management, and systems thinking. We celebrate the cultures and wisdom of our local Indigenous Tribes, upon whose land we live.
If you’re ready to step up and make a difference for climate and community, you belong here.
Applications are now open for our September launch of the next Leadership Institute Class of 2022. It’s time to empower the leaders of tomorrow and we need your help. Can you share this unique opportunity with your network?
Simply email Kerry at [email protected] with any name(s) of possible candidates, their contact information and their current role in the community, to the best of your knowledge. We’ll get in touch with them! You can also share our Flyerand program website with friends or coworkers and encourage them to join an informational session on Wednesday, April 21st or Wednesday, May 19th. We are proud to be able to continue to offer discounted and free tuition to systemically underrepresented members of our community.
We truly believe there is a leader in each of us, let’s help our local leaders shine!
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” – President Barack Obama
